Gretta Sarfaty is an artist born in Greece and naturalized in Brazil, in this country she has begun exploring the realms of contemporary art languages since the 1970s. Her multimedia trajectory started with painting, drawings and printmaking, then digging deep in experimentations based on photography and performance. She has consolidated her artwork throughout decades living and working among Brazil, some countries in Europe and in the US, with non-stop creative work associated to experimental art scenes. A common aspect of most of her works is the development of questions about stereotypes of women and the search for a feminine essence, frequently building them on series of self-portraits that get transformed from a media to another, composing the main modus operandi through which Gretta unfolds her aesthetic research till the present times. Currently, artworks created by Gretta between mid-1970s and early 1980s have been integrated into important cultural institutions' collections, such as the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo (PINA-SP), Museu de Arte Contemporânea de São Paulo (MAC-USP) and the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP).
